Colors of Joy
After three long weeks of a "summer break," the Bible Study gals gathered once again this evening. Most importantly, after two weeks and six days, TODAY was the day I could finally squeal about the surprise I have been holding.
The ladies knew we would be reading from the book of Philippians but what they did not know is they would be creating their own journals and inscribing Philippians scriptures inside. Unsure of how they would feel about it, I decided to take a leap of faith, in hopes they would enjoy the idea of creating their own scripture journals.
Today, baskets full of arts and crafts, markers, ribbon, scrapbook paper and stickers flowed from the left side of the table, all the way to the right.
To my surprise, the girls instantly took hold of their choice of scrapbook paper and began 'Mod-podging' the front covers of their composition books. Watercolors flung across the table and marker stains covered our hands. Each one of us enjoyed peeking over one another to see how the other was coming along.
Three hours later (10:30 p.m.) we finally inscribed the inside of our journals with the scripture of the day:
Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Philippians 2:1-2
Philippians is known as the book of joy and boy was it a blast being able to witness all the giggles while our masterpieces were being created.
So, what color is Joy? Better yet, what does Joy look like?
Joy comes in all shapes and sizes. Joy looks like beautiful watercolors, painted skies which sometimes look like the sun and misspelled words covered by red hearts. Joy is tear-filled eyes when love is shared and hugs are given. Joy is praying for one another's marriages and feeding another momma's baby. Joy is crooked edges and paper cuts. Joy can be two months old or forty years old.
Joy is also a choice and it is a highly recommended attitude to maintain. Joy may not being something we all get right every single day, but it is definitely an attitude I am inspired to have from this day forward.
The list of what joy looks like goes on and on but these descriptions are from the beautiful hours I was able to spend with the girls tonight. I encourage you to continue searching for your like-minded friends, getting out of the boat and seeing what Joy looks like to you!
